Activity: Baking/Conclusion.

Unfortunately, I've had to cut this week a bit short (due to a house move tomorrow [and work experience in London, eep!] I will be without the Internet until the end of the week), though I still feel pleased with the amount I have achieved in the short space of time. A love of baking and cooking, really, is embedded in me, and I feel that I could ramble on about it forever- so it is probably a good thing that I have timetabled a stop!
I would really like to continue with this project, though I fear it would be expected. I have already earnt the reputation in the class as the Julie Andrews "shelikesbakingandwantslotsofchildren" character, so it would be good to do something a little more unusual. Also, as previously mentioned in my Graphic Design image sourcing post (below), I have already studied food for my 'Speaking from Experience' project...I think it's time to try something new.

Activity: Baking/Graphic Design specific to baking.

Graphic Design researched and sourced from Secondary source examples- inspiration for future designs in print/web if I were to persue the 'baking' project to my final design in this 'What is Good?' project.

I love this 'chemistry of cake' design by designer Abby Rutt. Cute, candy colours and simple pictograms make for a strong infographic design with the human, and rather feminine touch. Simple, but with enough flair to maintain interest, and stand out from the crowd.

Cool branding design for 'Baked' in San Fransisco- a 24 hour bakery by Wade Winnebrenner. Here, he combined a 1950's style with a contemporary look for a unique and distinctive design- love the logo typeface, looks almost a little 1960's with the retro rounded-corners style.

Cute branding design for 'Amy Bakes Cupcakes' by Lauryl Kuntzman- feminine, fresh colours with simple and ~charming~ vector Illustrations. Communicates the style of the company very well.

Super-cute packaging for the kid's cookery range at Lakeland by Design co. nicepond- again, simple vector Illustrations combined with creative and playful typography make for an eye-catching design which kids and adults alike will certainly be attracted to.

Amazing papercraft designs for Australia's 'Women's Health' magazine, created by designer Benja Harney. Really, this is the sort of aesthetic that I wanted to achieve with the 'Speaking from Experience' project (see www.s-wilson1013-dp.blogspot.com for more details!) but didn't really have the skills/time to achieve. Love the block colours and organic shapes. Very happy looking indeed.

Activity: Baking/The Pie Hole.

One of my biggest baking inspirations. I really got into baking in a big way with the release of the television series 'Pushing Daisies' around four/five years ago. The ABC American programme was centered around the life of pie maker Ned, and his ability to wake the dead. This crime/baking bonaza was a staple of my life before being (sadly) ended after two years due to poor viewing figures in the US (the extravangant shows cost far more to produce then it bought it- with lavish costumes, sets and effects). The director, Bryan Fulcher, has said to have been inspired by his favourite film, 'Le Fabuleux destin d' Amelie Poulain' (mine too!) to create this colourful, memorable and beautiful show. Having...forever been a fan of film and television this gave birth to my love of bakery. Gawd bless you Mr. Fulcher, and thanks for the memories.

Activity: Baking/Primary/Secondary source baking photography.

Researching images of popularly baked goods- sweet and savoury.
All images sourced from relevant Google image searches. Sourced linked beneath each image:

PRIMARY SOURCE IMAGES

All images taken by me of cakes I have personally made. I really need to start taking more foodie pictures... and eating more, obviously (the cake at the bottom was created in the theme of 'Cinderella' for 2010 typogateaux LCA BAGD compeititon!)
SECONDARY SOURCE IMAGES

Homemade meringues. I could eat them all day.

Love the composition and layout of these two images of homemade baguette- I really need to start taking more photos of my baking- there's some beautiful examples out there on the big wide web.

Yum yum yum. I had scones, clotted cream and jam at my Grandfather's wedding/blessing (he was actually married in Australia). Undoubtedly the highlight of the day...sorry Gramps.

Homemade meat pie. One for the LADS.

One of the most beautiful decorated wedding cakes I've ever seen (and again, great composition for the photography!). It seems like a lot of Georgian regal elegance has inspired it's design.

Totally cute and just up my street! This daisy wedding cake exues elegance, purity and makes a contemporary classic statement.

Again, another beautiful wedding cake example- found from the "designer" wedding cake range. Ooo-err. How posh.

Eccles cakes make the world go round. I don't trust anyone who doesn't like them. End of.

Pizza Puff pastry tarlets- SO DARN TASTY.
I've never made them in this Cinammon Roll-style shape before, they look great though- got to try this out.

My oh my! It's apple pie! YUM YUM IN MY TUM (I'm a poet and yes, I do know it).

Here, tempered chocolate has been used to provide a crisp wrap-around chocolate for these cakes. Ultra sophistication.

Homemade croissants. C'est manifique!

I LOVE the method used to bake these homemade bread buns! Flower pots- ingenious and totally cute (and not to mention delicious-looking!)

A personal favourite- LMP is hard to beat.

Possibly the world's most amazing cake concept? Why have one flavour when you could have SEVEN. Om nom nom.

The queen of hearts was a lucky woman, being abundant in tarts n' all.

LOVE this design- a recipe/menu card for macaroon specialists, Laudree- this French Renaissance style is sophisticated and beautiful. I love the colours too.

My idea of the perfect birthday treat. One day...

*Not only am I now hungry, but I am also totally inspired. Beautiful images, my mind is a whirring.
